Learn how a bunker requirement behaves.
A beginner-friendly virtual bunker desk for quantity, quality, reconciliation and commercial checks. All results are educational estimates.
See the measurement and safety meaning first.
01 · Quantity lab
Turn fuel mass into volume
MT means metric tonnes, a mass. CBM means cubic metres, a volume. One CBM equals 1,000 litres. Density connects them.
Reference volume uses density at 15°C. Observed delivery volume changes with temperature and must use an approved correction method for contractual measurement.
02 · BDN reconciliation lab
Compare meter and delivery-note figures
BDN means Bunker Delivery Note. Enter an anonymised exercise and inspect where figures agree or need checking.
CONSISTENT WITH ENTERED DATA
Reconciliation depends on the contractual measurement basis, temperature correction, calibrated metering and delivery documents. A flag is a prompt to check figures, not an accusation of shortage.
03 · Fuel quality lab
Check a result against limits you enter
COQ means Certificate of Quality. Enter a result and an agreed limit; this tool does not certify fuel.
SOLAS WARNING: flashpoint is below the general 60°C threshold. Check the applicable regulation and documentation before any bunkering decision.
04 · Blend playground
See how component properties interact
EDUCATIONAL MODEL · NOT A BLENDING INSTRUCTION. Blended middle distillates exist in the international market. Calculated properties cannot replace representative testing, the applicable specification, COQ or delivery documentation.
100% allocated
05 · Commercial game
See the economics of one bunker transaction
Use a manual USD/MVR rate. This is a treasury and procurement exercise, not a live price or hidden markup strategy.
The 6% foreign-going figure is labelled a BFM commercial scenario. Confirm current statutory treatment for the actual transaction.
06 · Supplier selection
Headline price is only one input
Fictional profiles show why delivered economics can change with quantity, minimum quantity and transport charge.
Small-stem supplier
Example minimum: 50 MT
Example transport / MT: $35
Medium-stem supplier
Example minimum: 100 MT
Example transport / MT: $20
Large-stem supplier
Example minimum: 250 MT
Example transport / MT: $10
The lowest headline fuel price is not necessarily the lowest delivered bunker cost.
07 · Ready-to-bunker mission
Is the enquiry ready for a commercial check?
Tick the information a vessel or buyer has available. “Ready” here means information is assembled, not approved for bunkering.
INFORMATION STILL REQUIRED
08 · Sample transaction
An anonymised training case
A bunker order may combine a large MT quantity, USD/MT price, CBM, barge delivery, hose or connection requirements, BDN start/finish readings and a COQ requirement. The commercial offer may be all-inclusive or itemised.
This example contains no customer, vessel, counterparty, order number, supplier identity or confidential rate.
Take a real requirement to the bunker desk
These tools are educational. Send the vessel, IMO number, position, ETA, grade, specification if applicable and quantity for a case-by-case check.
